boston blogger meet-up @ small plates

February 17, 2009

i’m sure you all know what my breakfast looks like by now though it was a little different today. i crumbled part of a jamfrakas bar into my yogurt instead of the usual cashew cookie larabar. i really liked the jamfrakas- it tasted kinda like eating a fruit roll up and a chocolate chip cookie at the same time which may sound weird but i thought the fruity undertone was great and i actually preferred this bar to the zbars i’ve tried.

for lunch i had a romaine salad with grilled chicken, green beans, pear and gorgonzola. yay for stinky cheeses- there was a good amount in there but it all fell to the bottom!

and tonight was the much anticipated boston blogger meet-up organized by tina of carrots ‘n’ cake. i feel lucky to live in the same town (well, close enough) as a celebrity food blogger!

we had dinner at small plates, a very cute tapas restaurant in harvard square…the menu was quite diverse with lots of different ethnic influences- it was very hard to order since everything sounded delicious!

i started with a glass of their sangria. and after a long deliberation, i went with the roast sweet potato and beet salad with herbed chevre and black currant dressing and new bedford seared scallops with black sticky rice and caper berries. inna also shared a bite of her japanese eggplant dish with me which tasted amazing.

the salad was SO good. i have to admit this is my first time having fresh beet and it’s turned me into a believer! so good! and i’m sure i don’t have to convince any of you how yummy sweet potato and soft cheese are. the seared scallops were delicious as well- i don’t think you can ever go wrong with scallops but i especially loved the black sticky rice- i finished every last grain.

it was so nice to meet all the lovely boston bloggers and readers who attended. how cool is it that there are so many smart and GORGEOUS women from the food blog world right here in boston? i had a great time- thank you tina for organizing it!

It was great meeting you last night. I wish we all could have played musical chairs so we could have talked and mingled more, but it was still a great time. The scallops looks delicious. It makes me wish I had ordered that. Yum!

Wow, what a tasty meetup you had! Yum yum!
And gorgonzola cheese smells? I don’t have cheese often, so I have no idea the different cheeses. When we were at Costco and they had taste testing (LOL) there was a crazy flood of people trying cheese, and I was like.. “uugghh, cheese.. hum. no.” =S
