in good company!

man, i am so tired right now and i have a gazillion things i want to get done before i get to bed! i apologize for all the rambling and grammatical errors ahead. i can’t think!

i woke up bright and early this morning to catch the commuter rail into boston. the last five or so times i’ve promised myself that i would take the commuter rail in (versus driving in), i’ve ended up running late and missing my train. i ran out of the apartment with wet hair, and made it just a minute to spare!

i arrived in boston at 9 and had a little time to spare, so i walked into the copley mall to warm up and ate my packed chobani. i’m really liking this honey flavor.

i then met up with inna to head over to our cooking class at the boston center for adult ed.

YAY! we took a low fat, low carb class together which was so much fun especially because i had the best company πŸ™‚ the class lasted until 1-ish and we cooked and sampled a variety of yummy dishes the whole time. my tummy was very happy! i took a gazillion pics and will recap the class when i have more time. for now, do check out inna’s blog, she has a great recap and lots of pics from the class.

afterwards, inna and i strolled and girl talked our way down newbury street and ended up at trident cafe. i had a nice fruit + veggie juice that had a clever name that i can’t remember. it had carrot, apple, spinach and maybe beet? it was really good! next time i go home, i’m stealing my mom’s jack lalanne juicer cus i really miss fresh pressed juice!

i think inna and i could have chatted for much longer, but sadly we had to part ways because i had plans to go do boy stuff with my friend nay and tommy. nay and i rode the T to the BU bridge and walked the rest of the way to micro center. it was a gorgeous day out and it made me miss living in boston!

we met up with tommy and the boys bought what they needed and we headed over to nay’s where he helped tommy install some stuff. THANKS nay, you’re awesome! tommy is very much in love with his computer right now.

unfortunately for me, i had little interest in what was going on and was feeling tired. i shared some figamajigs with the bf for a sugar fix.

when i got home, i made myself a quick dinner with some of the leftovers from class. i also had one serving of the best potato chips ever (cape cod aged cheddar + jalapeno)

these chips are my choice for vani’s forbidden food challenge!

when i read about the challenge, i really thought it was a great idea, and knew it was something i wanted to do! since january, i’ve been putting more and more food into the “forbidden food” category. and while i totally believe in balance and moderation, some things just tip the scale more than others and as much as i LOVE them and crave them (like buffalo wings, and piping hot cheezy pizza from my favorite place), i can’t trust myself to be around them…

anyways, i had to put a little thought into my forbidden item, because i didn’t want to pick something tom likes also because chances are he will eat all of it before i get a chance to practice portion control, and enjoying in moderation. i didn’t want to choose a dessert because i do let myself indulge in these on occasion, and for the most part don’t feel bad about eating them.

so after much thought, the chips are my choice of “forbidden food” for vani’s challenge. i just LOVE the crunch and spicy flavor of these damn chips but always feel like a fattie after eating them. i don’t know…i feel like when we eat sweets on a diet, we’re always reassured with lines like “it’s okay to indulge in a cupcake once in a while- chocolate is one of life’s necessities!” but i rarely hear things like that about a bag of greasy potato chips.

anyway, while i did buy these after a night of drinking, i promise it had been planned ahead. that’s actually why i bought two bags, just in case i devoured one before i could really participate in the challenge!

so far so good! each bag is 2 servings, and i’ve been able to stick to one serving each time i enjoyed my forbidden food. this is something i thoroughly enjoyed doing and learned from because 99.9% of the time i eat potato chips, i will only grab 3 or 4 and walk away only to feel unsatisfied. this will of course lead me to walk to the kitchen to grab one handful at a time at ten minute intervals. so tonight, it was nice to enjoy a full serving in one sitting with NO GUILT and i felt satisfied enough not to rip open the second bag!

my gosh, i am just horrible at keeping my posts short! i should be getting to bed because i need to get up bright and early cus i’m going to nyc tomorrow! this was a spontaneous decision (i invited myself along yesterday after i heard melinda and her friend are spending the weekend there), and i haven’t decided yet if it’ll be a day or overnight trip.

i heard there will be some flea-market action going on (YAY!) but i’m just looking forward to spending time in the bestest city ever with good friends. i’m sure they’re already planned their day and restaurant choices out so i’m just tagging along!

i do plan on separating and meeting up with another friend for dinner while the girls catch a comedy show at night and i’ll probably skip out on some of the touristy attractions and do my own thing. i’m excited for it all!

i’ll try to get in a quick update in the morning! goodnight!

    Dude, is that a Masterpiece Optimus Prime and Strarscream in the background of that Figamajigs picture? SoooOooooO cool. Also, ladies, I’m single.

    The challenge is a great idea. When I’ve dieted before I wouldn’t allow myself bread, eggs, cheese or crisps and loads more. I realise now that was silly and I allow myself these things in moderation.

    I loved reading about your forbidden food! It’s so true that “diets” often budget room for sweets but not salty greasy yummy fries/chips etc. πŸ™‚ I totally hear ya on “grabbing a few every time i walk through the kitchen and never being satisfied” — I do that every time i buy crackers or tortilla chips!

    That cooking class sounds like so much fun, and it’s nice that you have such a cool person to take it with πŸ™‚ Things are so much better with a buddy.
