nyc pt.1: from french fries to frozen hot chocolate

March 24, 2009

nyc was fun and more fun. i love that city, i really really do.

i arrived on sunday at 3PM, and caught up with melinda in greenwich village. melinda and allison were enjoying a “free day,” and we just walked around exploring different neighborhoods with no destination in mind.

but first, my morning eats: kashi blueberry waffle + pb sandwich on the drive to the bus station and an iced americano and half a larabar mid bus ride.

we walked east through nyu, noho and the east village and strolled some outdoor markets and stopped inside cute shops along the way. melinda was a big fan of all the puppy stores…

and we had to stop into one of my favorite shops: patricia field!

i had a chai tea luna bar while shopping around (LOVE this flavor!) and couldn’t resist some belgian french fries from pommes frites.

i love belgian style french fries, or pretty much all french fries ever made…but this shop is best known for their variety of dipping sauces. they let you sample as many as you want before you order…i think you could make a meal out of just sampling, but i knew what i wanted right away! i got the roasted garlic mayo, and the sweet mango chutney mayo…

i shared these fries with the girls outside. it was the perfect way to go since fries and mayo aren’t exactly topping any healthy foods lists anytime soon. although allison did give me a look of horror as i explained that my blog is more about losing weight/healthy lifestyle than a true foodie blog…all while munching on a french fry. haha 🙂

we strolled around in the east village area til we were ready for dinner. melinda and allison are frrrozen hot chocolate virgins, so of course a visit to serendipity was in order!

the last time i ate at serendipity, i ordered a big bowl of greasy chicken and fries, but this time i was really craving fruit and veggies. i really wanted the cottage cheese and fruit, but couldn’t let myself pay that much to order cottage cheese! instead, i had a side salad and dim sum (which turned out to be steamed shumai- eh)

the dishes looked pretty lame individually, but i combined the two and made a decent meal out of it.

here are their vegetarian offerings…i was thinking of getting the black bean burger…but i really needed some veggies in me!

and for dessert we enjoyed their glorious frozen hot chocolates. (allison got the pb kind- i wish i got a taste of that one!)

last time, tommy and i ordered one at the beginning of the meal and were fighting for the last sip but this time i could barely finish half since i was full from dinner. so mental note: order dessert first at serendipity and bring the bf along 😀

we headed back to the hotel in gramercy park after dinner where allison crashed and melinda and i wandered the streets looking for a decent bar 🙂 we ended up taking the subway up to times square and ended up at tonic of all places. tonic used to be one of my regular spots when i lived in boston and the nyc version looked pretty much the same.

we enjoyed our drinks (vodka tonic for me) and caught up until some creepy guys hit on us (*shudder* it was really gross!) and called it a night!

well, that’s my sunday recap…i have to get dressed because i’m going out to boston again for dinner tonight (I’M SO EXHAUSTED!) but i want to get caught up on blogging, so i’ll try to get more up tonight! i’ve read through the gazillion posts on my reader but haven’t had a chance to comment on many- sorry!

see you again tonight!

What a great day. Although I’m against keeping puppies in a shop, the puppy is so cute.

helen- i agree with you about pet shops! i’d never support these businesses with a purchase.
