central square bar hop
last night, tom and i met up with nay for a little bar hopping in central square. central square is a hip little neighborhood in cambridge. it’s located between harvard and MIT, and has lots of restaurants and bars that cater to the younger-ish crowd.
we started off at miracle of science which is a casual, “geek-chic neighborhood bar.” they have a fun science theme going on with a big periodic table-inspired menu on one wall. i need to go back for lunch and try their Vb (that shouldn’t be too hard to decipher!)
i had half a UFO to drink…
next stop: the enormous room, located right in the heart of central square, the e room is actually a tiny bar/lounge located above central kitchen. it’s easy to miss because the only “sign” is an elephant on the door that leads upstairs.
i’ve had plenty of fun nights at enormous room, but i wouldn’t necessarily recommend it because they’re horribly inconsistent. if you want to be guaranteed a good time at e room, i’d suggest showing up drunk. haha! there are seats on one wall, and a raised carpeted area on the other. the rest of the space is just the hallway where everyone stands around or dances. it’s an awkward space that results in lots of drink spilling and splashing! the music is hit or miss too- last night’s play list could have come straight from my jr. high “promotion” dance, every single song was flashback to the 90’s!
still, i’m a sucker for their overpriced cocktails!
can you guess what i got?
champagne AND tequila in one drink? how can you go wrong?! of course, i got the la perla 🙂 i only had half though because i wanted to keep it a light night. nay got a manhattan and finished my drink for me.
last stop of the night was people’s republik, which is a dive bar between central and harvard square. people’s republik has a kitschy communist theme going on and they have plenty of posters and other decor to go with the them. they have a laid back, diverse crowd, cheap beer and darts!
i sipped water and watched the boys play darts.
here’s the three of us:
…and that’s how i spent my saturday night 🙂
