nyc recap pt.1: the upper west side

May 11, 2009

happy monday!

so i guess i’ll get started on recapping my weekend. since i have a gazillion pictures to share and it takes me about a gazillion hours to upload them, i’ll do a separate recap for each day for the next three days, and get in my regular meal post after dinner. did that make sense?

okay! day one/friday:

(hope you don’t get sick of seeing pics of me- there are a lot!)

we took the train into boston and caught the 10AM bus to new york. i did a little snacking on the bus:

i ate the cheese and made turkey wraps with the veggies. roll was saved for later…

we arrived in new york, checked into our hotel/dropped off our stuff and headed up to the museum of natural history.

hooray for dinosaurs!

the museum of natural history was too much fun (yeah, i’m a nerd)! there was just so much too see, and we had less than 2 hours so we had to rush through some exhibits but it’s on my list of spots i need to revisit.

some more exhibits (including my peoples :D, mammals, native americans, etc…)

do you not-so-recent graduates still use your college IDs?

we stayed at the museum til it closed at 5:30 and then walked down to the concert venue.

i snacked on some graham sticks and half a kashi golean chewy bar on the walk. we were hoping to find some dinner along the way…but we didn’t see anything, so thank god i had these in my purse!

on our walk, we stopped at the dakota building (where john lennon was killed) and strawberry fields (his memorial in central park).

the ethical society concert hall was just a few short blocks down. i was still hoping for dinner but with the long line outside the building, i had to settle for some grapes i had in my bag.

and here’s mono! they’re a japanese rock band and they were accompanied by a string orchestra for their 10 year anniversary show.

the show was awesome! i really really enjoyed it (which i can’t say for a lot of tommy’s music ;))

we walked by columbus circle on our way back to the hotel, so i stopped in the whole foods to grab a small salad (and a falafel from the hot bar). i ate it in the hotel room along with half a roll. (there will be better food tomorrow, but i ate a lot of packed snacks the whole weekend…)
