nyc recap pt.2: union square

May 12, 2009

nyc day 2: i’m splitting this one into two posts because there are just way too many pictures!

i had some packed banana bread in our hotel room before heading out for the day. we took the subway down to union square and acted like total tourists during our short walk to our destination.

destination= union square green market!

love love love! they have these farmer’s markets all around the city, but i think the union square one is the bestest :)! there’s just so much variety and yumminess all around.

i sampled everything i could, and snapped a ton of pics…here are a few:

i was sad that i couldn’t buy anything but was looking forward to our next stop….one lucky duck!

a wall of their raw macaroons, grawnola, and other goodies that i’ve been seeing all over the blogosphere.

i ordered a fruit spice juice (pineapple, pear, ginger) and tom got a lemon shock shake (lemon, apple, orange, honey).

my juice was good but not so much that i would order it again/try to recreate it. it was sweet with a real kick from the ginger. maybe too much of a kick though because the intensity made it hard to take more than just a small sip at a time and it took me forever to finish. i have no idea how tom got through his drink…lemon shock is most definitely an appropriate name for that one. who knows why his was called a smoothie, basically he was drinking lemon juice!

i wish we had spent that $15 + tax (crazy!) on a bag of macaroons instead. i was hoping they’d sell individual macaroons so i could have a taste but no such luck. obviously, i can’t give a real review because i didn’t taste any of their treats but if you’ve been thinking of ordering online…let me warn you that everything is teeny tiny. sorry to be a total cheapskate, but if you can’t tell, i was totally baffled by their prices…a whole pie is $100! if i ever become a raw foodie, i hope i never crave pumpkin pie.

anyway, the next stop was much more exciting! we decided to walk down instead of taking the train, and because of my horrible sense of direction and a bit of aimless wandering, we worked up quite an appetite for it!

i’m sure you’ve all guessed that i’m talking about peanut butter & co.!!!

yummmm! 😀 sorry to leave you hanging but i’ll get to lunch on my next recap…i need a breakfast break right now, and with all the pictures ahead, it’s probably better to start a new post!

    I have the same problem, I always wish stores sold things in ones so you could at least sample it before buying. Grrrrrr. But then again if i sampled one, i probably wouldn’t be in the mood for buying the whole bag. muahhaha
