nyc recap pt.5: picnic in central park

May 14, 2009

last day in new york 😦 i had a pear in the hotel room before checking out…

out of all the amazing food available in nyc, you know what i was most excited for? the whole foods hot bar! seriously, sometimes i don’t know what’s wrong with me πŸ˜›

we walked up to columbus circle, for a special visit to the whole foods in the time warner building.

that whole area back there is the prepared foods section. they have your regular salad bar and hot bar, but they also have mexican bar, indian bar, comfort foods bar, dessert bar….and more. it’s such a challenge not to overload that little box! i kept it in check though- i think it was $10-ish? so a little over a pound of food!

we took our food to go and found a cozy spot in central park to have our picnic lunch.

(we were so fortunate to have perfect weather all three days!)

this deserves a close-up, no?

yum! i got a mix of indian and “other” food. that piece of chicken was so good!

i scraped that little box clean while tom enjoyed a sandwich and a choco chip cookie…my dessert was a couple of these macarons from bouchon (*swoon*). look who came to visit when i pulled my macarons out:

these squirrels are fearless…he stood like this in various spots about a foot away from us.

sorry buddy. this may impress the other tourists, but you’re going to have to do a little more than stand on your hind legs for me to share a macaron with you!

other than a sexually charged european pair (get a room!) who decided to sit next to us…central park was a great way to spend the morning πŸ˜€ we did couple stuff like walking around holding hands and taking lots of self timer pics πŸ™‚

tom entertained himself between the couple-y stuff by climbing trees and having me snap a gazillion pics of him doing this:

haha what a dork.

we were planning on getting frrozen hot chocolates from serendipity, but the timing didn’t work out so we decided to grab one from dylan’s candy bar which is on the same block.

their frozen hot chocolate wasn’t as pretty as the serendipity version, but it was still very yummy. it was missing the whipped cream though- what’s up with that?

look how adorable dylan’s is! there are three floors of sugary goodness with the top floor being a dessert/ice cream shop.

mmm…crumbs cupcakes. i’m still kicking myself for not getting one! why did i choose that moment to be healthy?! πŸ˜›

ahh, and that black and white cookie is calling out to me! oh well, we got some candy from the bins downstairs to munch on- including dino gummies so that made me happy πŸ˜€

and with that we ended our little new york trip on a sweet note. the rest of the day was spent dashing to catch our bus, and then snacking our way back home on the bus.

thanks for following along on my long-ass recap :D!

I’ve always wanted to go to Serendipity and get the frozen hc. I’m glad Dylan’s tasted good too though. That looks like another cool store.
