summer eatin’

May 26, 2009

happy tuesday guys! i hope getting back to work/school isn’t too tough!

i have all my meals from yesterday to share. what fun, right?

for breakfast i had a vanilla light n’ fit yogurt with sliced strawberries. i can’t afford to indulge in the world of “designer” greek yogurts anymore, so until i get my ass to trader joe’s to pick up a tub of theirs, i’m sticking with whatever’s on sale. i also had a quarter of the freakishly good granola bar that inna and i got from flour bakery.

for lunch, i had the leftover half of my tofu banh mi (vietnamese sub) from myers + chang.

tommy and i killed the last watermelon in about a day and half. so this time i also grabbed a pineapple to mix it up a bit.

i hacked the suckers up and tupperwared them and of course ate lots in the process. after all that hard work, i gnawed on some pineapple core. yum 🙂 i kinda overdid it with the pineapple yesterday though because my mouth still feels tingly today. i have a minor allergy to certain fruits including pineapple, banana, and melons…it has to do with my pollen allergy and i only really notice it if it’s especially pollen-y out.

why does pineapple have to be soo damn good?! it’s definitely worth the weird burning feeling in my mouth (haha, i promise it’s not that bad!)

for dinner i had a turkey pita. our apartment was getting kinda cold with all the windows opened, so i was in the mood for some warm food! the whole wheat pita was stuffed with sauteed spinach, turkey, feta and hummus- then toasted til hot and crisp 🙂 i also had some watermelon on the side which canceled out the warm food thing.

does the temp/weather/seasons influence what you crave?

i’m obsessed with salads and sandwiches during the summer. i could also eat a mediterranean-y meal everyday and not get sick of it. i don’t know if my body really craves these things, or if it’s because i become a really lazy cook when it’s warm out and i don’t want to waste my day standing in a hot kitchen with the stove/oven on. this could work out to my advantage if i avoid resorting to delivery (pizzaaa!) or telling tom to make dinner (burgers!) like i did last summer 🙂

i don’t want to bore you with the same hummus sandwich and fruit pics everyday, so please share your favorite “it’s summer and i refuse to turn the stove on” recipes/meals with me!

okay, i’m going to try to get back to posting the meals as i eat em, or at least on the same day, so i’ll see you again soon with today’s eats! laters gators!

Sad about the slight pineapple allergy. Fresh pineapple is my absolute favorite fruit.
I don’t like how expensive Greek yogurt is. I wonder how hard it is to make your own.
