sunday brunch @ the friendly toast

June 16, 2009

i had no trouble hopping outa bed on sunday morning cus i was so excited for brunchie! i made plans to meet up with nay over in cambridge for brunch at the friendly toast. this adorable breakfast/lunch joint recently opened up a new location (the other one is in portsmouth, nh) in cambridge, and it’s been getting good reviews all over the place…of course we had to check it out!

after a commuter rail ride, a couple subway stops and a short walk, it was almost 2PM and this girl was sooo ready to eat!!!

unfortunately, so was everyone else! there was a 45 minute wait for a table. ouch!

we killed the time at a nearby bar where i sipped on a harpoon ipa (drinking before breakfast- smart!) after the beer, we headed back to the friendly toast and were seated soon enough.

hello barbie! the whole place was done up in a kitschy retro theme. so fun!

i started off with an alcoholic bevie, because…it’s brunch!

i wanted a bloody mary but vodka didn’t seem too wise since i was already feeling a bit loopy. so i got an orange sangria instead…this was SO yummy and it was hard not gulp down the whole thing before my food actually arrived šŸ™‚

they had a typical brunch menu with some “fancified” versions of diner favorites. there were a few healthy things on the menu, and you had the option to sub in tofu for any of the egg scrambles.

so what did i order? you’ll have to watch the video to see…

my god! i’m even annoying myself! i wish i could say it was the alcohol that was making it difficult for me to speak…but i have trouble forming sentences on a daily basis šŸ˜› haha, anyway, if that wasn’t too painful, i also made a short video in front of the camera, so i’ll have that up sometime soon unless you guys say “no more!”

oh, and brunch was pretty tasty. the homemade breads were ah-mazing! they tasted like something that would have come straight from your momma’s oven…very down home good. my eggs benedict was okay except that they over cooked the poached eggs so they didn’t run at all (i love runny yolks!). i’m still looking forward to going back though!

It’s very nice you had a good experience there!
I went there yesterday with 2 friends of mine, we waited 1h to be seated….
and then 2 hours after ordering, our food had not arrived yet! When we inquired about the 2h wait, the careless waitress said that the place was very busy (despite that fact that people who had arrived after us had been served…)

I have to say that the food did look amazing though so I might give it another try, specially after watching your video šŸ™‚

But 2 hours wait… I’ve just never heard of it before…

I love the Friendly Toast in Portmsouth, but I do always go on the OFF hours! My absolute fave is the breakfast burrito – Rick and I will travel for that baby. I think he may even wait in line for it!
