happy birthday blog!

August 3, 2009

so…my camera is officially broken! i’m still upset about it since i haven’t had it very long, but thankfully i still have my old one to use (i just have to find it and charge it up). i have to hold off on purchasing a new one cus i have too many other expenses that take priority– including vacation!

i’m super duper excited about going on a vacation….! i’m hoping you guys can help.

right now, we’re leaning towards taking a 4 day carribean cruise because it seems the most affordable. the other alternative would be to fly out (probably to the bahamas) and book a hotel for the same amount of time. there’s not much difference in price between flying out to the port or to the bahamas….so i need to decide if the price of the cruise and everything that’s included is equal or lesser than the price of booking a hotel and just doing stuff on our own. i’m sure it can go both ways depending on what kind of excursions we take or what we eat…but i’d love to hear any insight on cruising! is it a cost effective vacation? or are there like a gazillion other charges i’m not thinking of? please help!

immediately after the vacation…i’m going to los angeles to stay with my family for a week. i’m sooo excited to see my parents, hang out with my lil’ sis and eat tons of korean food and mexican food! after that week…if we still have funds left, tommy and i are going to meet up in san francisco, hang out there for a couple days and drive my new car back to massachusetts. i had a blast on my last road trip with tommy and really hope everything works out so we can do it again. we’re planning on taking a completely different route from last year, and when the time gets closer, i hope you guys can recommend sights to see and places to eat along the way. maybe i can even meet-up with some of you girls? let me know if you live along I70 or I80!

i’m looking forward to the next two months. actually, make that three since my 28th birthday is in october! having events on my calendar really pumps up my motivation to get in shape, and i plan on taking full advantage of it! i hesitate to put numbers out there but i want to get down to 124 by august 31. that’s only about 5 lbs away, but they are a tough 5 lbs to lose. my body seems to LOVE being at 128-130. this has always been my plateau weight and in the past i’ve reached it and gave up and gained again. i have held steady at this weight for one too many months now and i NEED to break this plateau while my motivation is strong. i haven’t mentioned it yet, but i’ve stepped up my exercise for the past couple weeks, and i see no progress. it’s so frustrating…but i know if i keep it up it will pay off. right?

so there it is. i want to lose 5 lbs this month. when i was heavier…that was a reasonable number…i don’t know how it will go this month but i’m not taking a laid back approach. honestly though, i have NO idea how i should go about this. i’ve dieted so much, that the word has lost meaning. i really wanted to write out some rules, or at least a plan…but i don’t know what to write out. for now, i will continue exercising daily this week and not make any changes to my meals. next week, i will plan out some meals, grocery shop and start counting calories. any ideas, or things that have worked for you…please share!

and lastly…it’s my blog birthday! i started blogging exactly a year ago today! i actually didn’t “enter the blog world” and start commenting on other blogs until about six months after…so for the first few months…i just blogged for myself and it was still fun! i started this blog as a fun hobby and sometimes i need to remind myself of that. i do love the added perk of “meeting” other wonderful bloggers/readers though, so i hope if there are any lurkers out there you will de-lurk to wish me a happy blog birthday!

blogbday

Ohhh so many things exciting for you! Happy blogiversary from your faithful reader! Fun times are ahead for you in LA. Make sure and go to some surrounding beaches and take a picture of yourself at Rodeo drive for me. Hmm…the last 5 pounds are a killer. Pump up the exercise by adding an extra walk during the day and when you eat sandwiches ditch half the bread and have them open-faced! Lots of veggies too to fill you up šŸ™‚ Good luck!

But regardless I have kept on reading your blog all along and keeping up with you, just in silence šŸ™‚ But I couldn’t not say happy blogaversary! Hope we can hang out soon! Oh, and soooooooo jealous if you get to go to SF šŸ™‚

    Happy blog birthday!
    Sorry about your camera šŸ˜¦

We’re thinking of taking a 4 day cruise in the winter. But I think I’d rather go to Disneyworld or Hilton Head or Key West. 4 days just seems too short.

Happy belated birthday Blog! šŸ˜€ Good luck on your goal! I’m sure you can do it. You can look up different online resources and see what works for you. I think Shape.com might have something? I think I read something in one of my mom’s issues, not sure.

    1) Happy blogaversarry šŸ™‚
    2) I like cruises because you get to see a few places at once but I don’t like being “stuck” on the cruise ship. It’s really fun the first day but then it gets old. The food is usually pretty bland too and the characters you see there are often disturbing. With that said I’ve never been to the Bahamas so I can’t compare it. Either way, vacations are always fun so I’m sure you’ll have a blast whatever you choose to do. šŸ˜€
    3) I think you maybe platoued because you’re not eating enough. Jillian Michael’s calls the last 10lbs “vanity pounds” and says you always need to increase your caloric intake for those last 10 lbs. It sounds crazy but I guess your body instantly wants to preserve all those calories because it already thinks you’re healthy and if you’re cutting down too much then it gets into starvation mode. It was always hard for me to grasp this concept. I “know” that’s what happens but I still can’t seem to allow myself to eat more when I’m trying to lose weight. Of course now I’m kind of deciding to stop losing weight. Are you unhappy with your current body shape. I wrote a post yesterday on “is it worth it?” and people left some very interesting comments. Looks like the consensus of trying to lose those last 5-10 lbs and then maintaining at that weight was that “it’s not worth it.” It’s different for everyone of course, but maybe it will give you some food for thought šŸ˜€

    Happy Blog Birthday!

On weight loss….like you, I’m holding steady in the 128 – 130 range. Its tough, because those low 20s are so close!!

When I really want to buckle down – I do this:
My suggestion (and its only that – a suggestion) would be cut out sugar completely (SO hard the first couple of days, but then, you don’t crave it, truly) and add more protein to your day. Some of your meals seem so small to me, I wonder if you need to eat MORE to rev your metabolism? Beans, yogurt, eggs, baked chicken, tuna, avocado, tofu, or small amount of nuts – at every meal. It keeps me satisfied so I’m not a snack monster. Our bodies need protein and fat (!) to stay full!

    Good luck!

    Happy Blog Birthday!!
I’m with Elina on #3. The closer you are to your ideal weight, the harder those pounds are. Are you tracking your calories? You definitely might not be eating enough. I’m not trying to preach or be annoying, sorry! Just thinking out loud here. I think you look great now but I understand those last 5 lbs can drive you insane! I think a month is a good amount of time, you can do it. Good luck!
