party in the usa: reno

October 2, 2009

after a fun day in san francisco, we took our first east towards reno. i totally forgot that there’s a mountain range between northern california and nevada until we were driving up and down the windy mountain roads in the dark. oops 😛 it wasn’t too bad though, and we made it to reno safe and sound!

yay! reno! i haven’t been to reno in ages…but i don’t think the city has hasn’t changed a bit!

we checked into our hotel and although it was late and i had been nodding off in the car…there’s something about that recycled casino air that wakes you right up and i had to try my hand at some slots.

*sigh* one day i will be able to leave while i’m ahead!

after a long night, it was no surprise that we ended up sleeping in. luckily, i had some time to hit the hotel gym before check out. don’t you love that carpet?

after a sweaty workout, and a refreshing shower…i was a hungry girl!

we checked out of our hotel/casino and headed over to the el dorado casino which i heard had a good buffet. why is it that casinos are synonymous with buffets for me? oh well 😛

the el dorado did have a pretty nice buffet. it was no vegas buffet, but i thought it was set up nicely and there was a good variety. my only complaint is that i wish they had more seafood. after a walk through to survey all my options, i made myself a salad and got a tamale from the mexican section of the buffet.

hiding behind those tortilla chips is some cottage cheese and smoked salmon. yummy 🙂

of course there was a second plate! the pic turned out ugly though- so i’ll just tell you what i had. a piece of chicken and some quinoa salad.

and…onto the good stuff…dessert!

the lighting in those pictures are so dramatic! doesn’t it remind you of the junk food cases on the biggest loser in the elimination room? am i the only person who always wants to eat cake after seeing them?

so what did i get?

i had a fruit tart, a fruit tart-like pastry with spongecake, strawberries and an orange.

fruit tarts are my favorite dessert. yum yum!

i had to get one more- topped with chocolate chips this time 😛 the cowboy at the table next to us cheered me on for getting seconds!

after stuffing ourselves at the buffet we went to donate a little more money to the casino gods before hitting the road again.

i tried to look for the cheesiest place to take a picture. 😀

next stop: salt lake city
