party in the usa: chicago deep dish & the blues

October 7, 2009

after leaving nebraska in the morning, and driving through iowa all day, i arrived in chicago just in time for dinner.

lou malnati’s for some chicago-style deep dish pizza!!!

i split a combo platter to start-it came with mozzarella sticks, cheddar cubes, breaded zucchini and mushrooms. i went to town on the zucchini and shrooms until i remembered i still had pizza coming!

mmm…fried zucchini with ranch dressing…why must you be so good?

for my pizza i got an individual sized “lou” which had all my favorite toppings: spinach, mushrooms and tomatoes.

the individual was the perfect size…not too big, not too small…and super affordable!

look at all that cheese…and the roma tomatoes…doesn’t it look good?

it was doughy, cheesy, sauce-y and most importantly yummy 🙂 the only thing i would do different is order a larger pizza to split with tom, i prefer the crust to pizza ratio better on larger slices, if that makes any sense.

after our dinner, i headed over to kingston mines to listen to the blues.

kingston mines was fun. the reviews said it was a bit touristy, and there were a few tourists there…but it was still a great atmosphere.

after a day stuck in the car, it was nice to relax and listen to the live music. i was exhausted though and called it a night around 1AM in order to get an early start on sightseeing the next morning.

I live in Chicagoland, and think that Lou Malnotti’s pizza is the best – the crust in particular.

    Now I want some!

Ha! Crust to cheese ratio makes PERFECT sense! There’s a pizza I order when I’m feeling cheese bready. I get double mushrooms, double cheese, no sauce. And I have to get a medium or larger, because the crust to cheese ratio is off in a small.
