happy monday!

i’m back to food-logging today…but i’m going to post all of today’s meals at once tonight. so for now, here are some more meals from cali. i think all i did on my stay there was eat, eat eat.

my mom only cooks a full meal a couple times a week but when she does, there is always a soup or stew involved.

two popular korean jigaes (stews):

dwen-jang jigae: soybean paste stew (like a stronger, thicker miso paste) with tofu mushrooms, bean sprouts, zucchini, and seaweed.

kimchi jigae: kimchi, tofu, mushrooms, and pork.

that’s a huge-ass mushroom slice in the bowl.

i told my mom i was craving shrimpies, and she taught me a new way to prepare shrimp.

salt-roasted shrimpies:

isn’t that cool? you basically just cook the shrimp on heated salt…you can do this on a skillet in the oven or in a sturdy pot on the stove top. no oil necessary and the shrimp is so tender and lightly flavored with the salt. yum!

    yum yum dwen jan jjigae is my favorite!! whoa those are some huge shrimps!!

    Those are two of our go-to meals for dinner! Mmm, I love dwenjang and kimchi jjigae. It’s interesting how each family has their own way of making them too. We usually don’t have mushrooms or bean sprouts in our dwenjang and no pork in our kimchi jjigae (but sometimes mackerel).
