yelp’s passport to kendall square

October 15, 2009

last night was the launch party for yelp’s passport to kendall square and in true yelp fashion, it was delectably fun!

for the next week, participating kendall square restaurants and business will offer discounts to yelp passport to kendall square holders and last night, all those businesses gathered in one spot to hand out samples, give demos and provide information about their businesses.

that spot was the fancy new microsoft NERD (new england research & development) center, which was so perfect for this event since kendall square is home to MIT and all things techie.

the space was modern, hip and super creative.

we took up three whole floors of the building and while the beatles rockband on the second floor was quite the crowd pleaser, my favorite floor was definitely the first one. in case you don’t know me at all, that would be because floor numero uno was home to food, booze, and dancing!

we started off the night with some vino courtesy of barefoot.

and with pinot in hand, we made our rounds to the food tables.

speaking of which, please forgive the horrible pictures…it wasn’t easy juggling camera, food, drink…and a passport!

as we “traveled through kendall square,” our passports were stamped by the businesses we visited. my first stamp came from amelia’s trattoria who had carved pork sammies and arancini.

i didn’t take a pic of all the food tables but here’s a small selection of what was available:

bambara‘s lobster mac & cheese *swoon*

and cookies!

it was a mouthwatering trip through kendall square’s best, and i picked up some tasty souvenirs to feast on 😉

my plate had butternut squash bisque with crabmeat, lobster mac, arancini balls, teriyaki salmon, clam chowder, and a cranberry chicken salad sandwich.

i must have been in a soup mood cus my favorites were the chowder from legal sea foods and the bisque.

after our bellies were full, we were ready to check out the rest of the par-tay.

but first, time for another drink…

or two! 🙂

on the left is the most delicious cocktail ever: pearl vodka & apple cider in a cinnamon sugar rimmed glass was like liquid autumn and on the right is domaine de canton, which is a ginger infused cognac. the ginger flavor was pretty intense but grew on me as i kept sipping. boy was it a strong drink though! (nay: have u tried this? it seems like something you’d like)

some of the entertainment included free massages by google, henna tatoodles, virtual games, a dj….

and d-d-dancing to illus rock.

yelp really knows how to throw a party! for further proof, you can check out my past yelp events on the ♥ ♥ ♥ page which has some of my favorite posts. also to get your own free food and discounts from select kendall square businesses, you can download your own passport here.

before heading home with our bags o’ swag and passport full of stamps, we caffeinated for the drive home with a sample of the new starbucks via instant coffee.
