ben & jerry’s factory

October 27, 2009

after our yummy breakfast at the b&b, we set out to explore the lovely state of vermont.

only problem…rain, rain and more rain…all day long. bleh.

don’t worry….we made the most of it. we started off with a scenic drive on route 100, which according to yankee magazine has the best foliage viewing in all of new england. they weren’t kidding…it was sooo gorgeous. we drove along the green mountain forest, passed the cutest little towns, quaint farms, and a waterfall! there was one bend in the road with holsteins grazing on the countryside with a backdrop of the green mountains and it looked like we just stepped into one of those “happy cow” commercials- except in this case, happy cows come from vermont.

i wish i had pictures…not that my amateur photog skills would have done the views justice…but it was just too wet and gross to stop and take pictures. oh well, i took mental pics for myself 🙂

after our leisurely three hour drive north, we arrived in waterbury- home to the ben & jerry’s ice cream factory! woohoo!

yummy ice cream that-a-way!

the factory doesn’t run on weekends but we paid our admission fee and got to see the machines and a short film on ben & jerry. i was surprised to see how small the factory is. the best part of the tour was the flavor room…

sample time!

the flavor of the day was mint chocolate chunk!

you only get a tiny scoop of the flavor of the day though. boo!

dream job=

after the tour, we visited the flavor graveyard…

where retired flavors are laid to rest.

i was saddest to see “miz jelena’s sweet potato pie”

one potato, two potato,
sweet potato pie,
no one could appreciate it,
so we had to let it die.

*sniff* R.I.P.

all in all, it was a fun stop…probably better on weekdays when the factory is running but when is anything to do with ice cream ever bad?

peace, love & ice cream.

words i can live by 😀

what’s your favorite ben & jerry’s flavor?

mine is karamel sutra…and i remember a berry crumble one that i loved but it must be retired because i haven’t seen it recently. oh! and the coconut 7 layer bar which i think you can only get in scoop shops. yum!!

    Yep, definitely jealous of you!

My favorite is probably the Coconut 7 Layer one too. I had it for the first time at a scoop shop in Fort Lauderdale earlier this month and omg, amazing. I wish they would make available in retail! Otherwise, no clearly defined favorite… I rotate flavors and love them ALL.

Oh man the cow commercial thing sounds awesome! I can use my imagination lol

What?? They had a sweet potato flavor??? Hm.. I’m not sure what my favorite is since I haven’t had many different kinds but I just looked up the flavors and I saw Mission to Marzipan! That sounds incredible.

That looks like such a fun stop!

I love their Chubby Hubby flavor. A close second is the cinnamon roll.

All right Ben and Jerry. I know you are the best ice cream makers in the world. You must resurrect four tasty flavours from the “Graveyard”! The four best flavours I want you to return to Ireland are: Chocolate Therapy, Bohemian Raspberry, Fossil Fuel and of course Dublin Mudslide!!!!! Now please please please resurrect them because they are so delicious! Thank you.
